Greening Partners

Berkeley Ecology Center
Every year, the Berkeley Ecology Center enjoys the process of helping Bioneers push the envelope of what it means to be a green event. Last year, only 10% of the waste generated by the conference went to the landfill. The rest was recycled and composted. Energy and resources were saved, and food scraps were turned into rich compost that fertilized both urban gardens and organic farms. We hope that the Zero Waste ideals and practices that you encounter at the National Bioneers Conference will inspire you to green the events you create and attend at home. Since 1969, the Berkeley Ecology Center has been giving people the tools, information, alternatives, and infrastructure to live urban lives that respect the environment, build community, and reinforce justice. BEC offers a wide range of classes, workshops and climate action services; staff a hotline and help desk; and maintain a store full of books and products for environmentally sustainable living. ecologycenter.org

Conservation Corps North Bay
Since 2000, CCNB has provided recycling and composting services at the National Bioneers Conference. With the help of Marin Sanitary Services and the BEC, the National Bioneers Conference has a 90% diversion rate. Founded in 1982, Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) is committed to developing youth and conserving natural resources for a strong, sustainable community. Nationally recognized as a leader in youth service, each year approximately 120 corpsmembers (aged 18–28) and 140 junior corps members (grades sixth-twelve) participate in CCNB’s job training and education programs. The programs help these young people gain the knowledge, values and skills to become productive and responsible members of their community and stewards of the environment. Corpsmembers play an important role in reducing fire and flood hazards, constructing and maintaining trails, restoring riparian and wildlife habitat, collecting recyclable materials, growing organic food, and providing environmental education to school children.conservationcorpsnorthbay.org

Marin Sanitary Service, Marin Recycling and Marin Resource Recovery Centers
Environmental leaders. Our commitment to zero waste extends from the curbside to the community through education and philanthropic activities. For Bioneers 2012, MSS has donated its collection containers and hauling services. In collaboration with Conservation Corps North Bay, we will help keep discarded resources at the Conference out of the landfill. Come visit MSS booth for more information about services we offer and how you can help Marin reach its goal of zero waste.
